Greeting from your local Chatelaine,

Welcome to the Barony of Bright Hills - the local branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism in the greater Baltimore area. We include Baltimore City, and Carroll, Cecil, and Harford counties. It is the joyful task of the Chatelaine to introduce you to the nobles and notables of the northeast corner of Maryland, and within the "current Middle Ages," the northeast corner of the Kingdom of Atlantia.

This barony is a friendly group. We welcome visitors and invite you to join us. What most interests you about the Middle Ages or the Renaissance? I will help you find members who share your interests. Our members include folk who know many crafts and skills, from armored combat to dance, cooking, embroidery and heraldry, and most are happy to teach what they know. Or perhaps you have a skill to teach us!

But you don't need a costume to find out more about us - you can come as you are (we usually do) to the Friday night meetings we call Fighter Practice; see the local event page for directions. Most weeks you'll see people getting training in armored combat with (rattan) swords and wooden shields, dueling with foils and rapiers, or using bows and arrows outside. Some weeks there will be dance lessons, and occasionally classes on other topics. Usually there are people working on craft projects, about which they are happy to answer questions, and always there are folk socializing with friends. For example, currently, one of my particular interests is Viking wire weaving, which creates pretty metal chains. It is an easy, inexpensive craft that makes nice jewelry. Let me know if you would like to have a lesson.

Please email me with any questions, and please come visit a Fighter Practice soon. I would enjoy introducing you to the talented lords and ladies of Bright Hills. Yours in Service,

Maestra Barbara Giumaria diRoberto
